Bloggerette Sorority Sister Swap and a wonderful surprise from my sweet and sassy friend, Marsha

Bloggerette Sorority Sisters Christmas Ornament Swap. My wonderful sister swapper was Ginger of Glitter and Roses. Ginger has the most beautiful pictures of her home and I think I wanna live there. Her Christmas decos are pinks, whites and silvers in the main room and then each room seems to have a theme. I thought I was the only one like that around! LOL Sad to say there aren't many decos up here this year since we are in the middle of a remodel. But I do have all my awesome ornies out and will be putting them on my lil pink tree tomorrow...YAY!

This fall I had the opportunity to take a paperclay doll making class with the famous Colleen Moody, the wonderful Doll Atelier! Colleen makes the most amazing dolls. I now have three in my collection. Anyway, thanks to Colleen's class I was able to learn this awesome new craft. The snowflake girl is a snowgirl head adorned with a romantic and whimsical hat made of french script muslin and roses and ribbon. She has been painted, stained and glittered and attached to a glittery tin snowflake. She has a ruffled collar made of muslin and vintage lace and cute rosy cheeks.

The other ornie is also paper clay. She is the pink jeweled snow queen. She is made of paperclay and includes shoulders with a ruffly chiffon wrap, a ribbon and rhinestone choker and a paper crown adorned with a pink vintage rhinestone jewel piece.

YES!!! These are the beautiful ornaments GInger made and sent me...I love them both. I was drooling over the bulb when she was posting about making them.

The bulb is frosted, glittered and then has bridal type lace around it and roses and ribbons!

And this snowflake backed paper star, vintage and glitter ornament is so lovely and 3D, It's just beautiful!

Look at this adorable spoon! Marsha is so talented and so giving and so amazing! Such a good friend...I was very surprised the other day after having a horrible day to come home and find this lovely in my mail waiting for me. I love it! The spoon is adorned with an image of a frozen charlotte, glittered and it says vintage girl. The spoon is held by pretty crystals and beads in pale pinks and ivories. It was packaged in a clear cello with the yummy pink shred and the cutest pink and ivory buttons! I love it! This will not go in a box after Christmas. It is perfect for my room! Thanks sweet Marsha! Button Floozies Christmas Ornie Swap

I know I am late. So sorry. But I did want to share the awesome ornies I received. Laurie hosted this button ornament swap a few weeks ago. My partners were Marsha, Donna and Deb. Here is a pic of the ornies sent to me by my partners Deb from Debs Vintage Soul Blog, Donna from Brynwood Needleworks and Marsha from the Oklahoma Button Society.

Deb made this wonderful round disc covered in ivory and cream buttons centered by a beautiful cameo.

Donna made the cutest little pillow ornie with a hand stitched tin solder adorned with buttons. The pillow has an old vintage lace piece also adorned with buttons.

And Marsha made a cute lil angel pixie made with an old spool painted pink, pipe cleaners, crepe paper and buttons. The hanger is also made with buttons. It's all pink and white. Marsha must have done her homework! Thanks ladies for the special ornies!

I made felted ornies that I hand drew and cut with felt and muslin. Then I used fabrics and old laces, glitter and of course buttons to adorn them. I made a Christmas Tree, a stocking and an owl.

My Snow girl from Colleen Moody's Doll Class

As many of you know, Colleen Moody is an EXCEPTIONAL Doll artist who resides in Northern California near San Francisco. At the beginning of September I had the amazing opportunity to take one of her doll sculpting classes. It was held over a weekend at her home. Her studio is to die for! I am so amazed at her talent and so overjoyed to have been able to attend. I met some wonderful women that weekend and learned how to sculpt these dolls. It was actually not as difficult as I anticipated, although I have a LOOONNGGG way to go! LOL

The class consisted of making two dolls in shadow boxes. We made the shadow boxes from old frames, then sculpted our dolls. One was a winter snow girl and the other was a Halloween Pumpkin. My Pumpkin is almost ready for reveal, not yet....But my snowgirl is making her debut!

My frame was brown stained with gold leafing, but it didn't look good with my girl, so I took some of Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint, her newest color, French Linen and painted my frame. I antiqued it with the dark stain. I liked the color, but it just didn't pop. So I took the Antique white chalk paint and dry brushed it on over the French Linen! It was exactly what it needed. I love it!

Colleen sells her wonderful creations on her blog The Doll Atelier, she posts in advance when she puts them up, so if you are interested you gotta be really quick cause they go fast!

Colleen is an anazing artist and if you ever get the chance to take one of her classes, they are totally worth it! On Sunday, she took several of us to the Alameda Antique Mart. It was Huge! It was Amazing! It was Wonderful! Thanks so much Colleen, for sharing a bit of your time with us! Becs

Vintage Dragon Fly's Halloween Match Box Swap

Last month I participated in a Halloween Matchbox swap hosted by Vintage DragonFly. We also had to make four items to go with the swap. My partner Peace, said she loved dark ghoulish and gothic halloween themed things. So I tried to keep with the theme she liked. The match box I made for Peace:

Fall In Love With Buttons Swap Linky Party! And Vintage Connections Creative Button Swap reveal

A few weeks ago I joined in the Button Floozies "Fall in Love with Buttons" Tin and button swap. My partner was DeeDee Johnson. I altered this Altoid tin and filled it with vintage, old and new buttons in fall colors and themes. The image on the tin is an altered one by me. I also used some script paper for the bottom of the tin. I painted the sides with chalk paint and embellished with buttons and flowers. I found some really nice old buttons for DeeDee.

This is the beautiful tin DeeDee made for me and all the wonderful buttons she included in it. She also made me a needle keep. It is lovely. I have never had one of these before and am so thankful she shared one with me. Thanks DeeDee!

I am learning about old buttons since I stumbled onto this group. Laurie, Tami and many other amazing women share tons of info and pictures on collecting and preserving old buttons. They also share some unique ways to display them as well. In fact, Laurie is doing a Linky party for this button swap at Button Floozies, so please drop on over and check out all the other blogs and the awesome tins that were swapped!

I also joined in Tami Hacker's Creative Button Swap. We were supposed to send a few buttons that our partner enjoyed and display them in a creative or unique way. My partner was Joni Reinhardt. Joni sent me this adorable pumpkin adorned with lace and buttons and a whimsical crow on top! I love it! The buttons were all so unusual and were placed on the pumpkin with pins so they are completely removable. What a clever idea. Thanks Joni!

Joni collects Picture buttons and China Stencil buttons. I was able to find a few of these and added a few of my favorites as well. I made a pocket pillow out of old linens and lace, then tacked the buttons onto the pillow. I also added some other goodies in the pocket pillow for Joni.

Sassy Marsha's Sassy Apron

My friend Marsha Mees (Sassy Mini Dolls Blog) is one of the sweetest blog friends I have ever met. And I did have the opportunity to meet her in February at Cassandra's Marie's Danses de Fleurs event in Florida. What is so interesting is that Marsha and I both live in California and we traveled all the way to Florida to meet in person!!! Crazy World this blogland!

Anyway...Marsha makes the most beautiful porcelin mini dolls. They are amazing! And I mentioned that I wanted to learn how to make one. So we decided to do a swap after the event. That was in February. Well Marsha promptly contacted me and then sent me the doll head, arms, and legs, She actually made them and fired them for me. I just have to finish painting them and putting the body together....I have to admit I am a little intimidated!

Marsha wanted an apron since she knew that my sister and I have been making them. I wanted it to be special and her only request was that it be pink and black!

And, if anyone knows me they know I CAN DO PINK!

If any of you know Marsha she is Outrageously talented and Outrageously fun! I know she loves all things French, all things Foofy over the top blingy and all thing Audrey Hepburn.
So, this was my inspiration. I wanted it to be a little vintage too, so I used vintage lace pieces and vintage buttons and jewels for the accents.
The apron is my own design and it has evolved since I started making them last year. My sister does most the machine sewing because she sew straignt and I definately do not! LOL We work good together (most of the time).
The apron has a black lace overlay and 5 rows of ruffles. The pocket is a printed photo on fabric of Audrey H. I also made the flower pin which can be removed and worn with anything else. Marsha was so patient!
As I said earlier, She mailed me my little doll within a week of getting back from Florida! OMG! So, needless to say, this apron was long overdue to arrive to her today! And it did and I think she loved it! IT is perfect for her and I can't wait to see a pic of her wearing it.

Marsha my friend I cannot wait to meet you again and do some JUNKIN' Woo Hoo!!! I have some more things to show off for a show I am doing in a week, so stay tuned...Becs

As you can see, I received the cutest Grandma's Attic match box filled to the brim with goodies from Michele over at "Something Special" Blog. Michele did such an amazing job with the box. It is so vintage and I loved everything she sent! Here is the box with an old fan, postcard and notecard.

Now for Part 2!

This is the match box I made for Laurie, Indulge Your Shelf. I used a flocked vintage wall paper with a damask pattern for the cover in a beautiful chartreuse green color. The drawer was covered in a coordinating flocked striped vintage wall paper with a vintage button closure. I made the rose on top with a piece of vintage trim.

I knew Laurie liked alot of the same things I did so I just pulled from my beloved collection...hoping she would enjoy them. The next few pictures are courtesy of Laurie who shared her pics with me as I did not get photos of all the goodies inside. Thanks Laurie! I packed everything in this cool vintage candie box.

Bird Song Tag Book Has Arrived! And Trash to Treasure Giveaway Prize!

As most of you know, Karla Nathan, Karla's Cottage, hosted a swap called "Bird Song Tag Book Swap". Everyone was to make and send in seven tags to Karla and she sorted them out then sent us a book of eight tags (including hers). I previously the tags I made and sent in and today I got these wonderful tags in the mail! If you want to read more about the swap click on this link, and read all about the tags. "Name that Tag"

The tag on the left is the one that Karla made and it was the cover for the tag book. The cage is glittered and the bird is painted. It is just beautiful! I just love the little silver bird cage charm attached!

The tag on the right, made by Tina S., BeansieBabbles, It has the most adorable pink cut out bird and a polka dot birdhouse!!!

The next two tags are in turquoise blue colors! ANd they both have bird feathers on them! They are adorable...The one on the left is made by Kathy, A Spectacular Mess, Birds on a nest with pearls and a scrabble tile.

The tag on the right is made by Jennifer, Eat Peanuts Blog, Jen was my partner another time and I was glad to see I received a tag from her. She made a framed peacock and added a peacock feather to her tag! Love it!

These two coming up are the cutest pink tags ever! The one on the left is made by Tami Hacker, Vintage Connections Blog, THis is one of my favorites! It is pink with glittered damask and pink roses, lace and little buttons, and the cutest lil bluebird ever! And the back is just adorable too!

The tag on the right is made by Michele, Nook and Cranny Gifts,This beautiful tag is covered with laces, ribbons, birds and flowers, It's perfect!

These last two tags are in blues and creams and so darling! The tag on the left is made by Robin Sanchez, Once Upon a Pink Moon, Robin and I have been swap partners before in a ning group. She always does such, beautiful work. The tag has a bird nest made from a baby bootie and the bird is adorning the cutest crown ever!

The tag on the right was done by Becky Handforth, becky-handforth blog, the base of this tage is on sheet music with cream lace and a cream rose. She added a nest under the cutest lil multidemensional blue bird. It even has pearls! I love it!

Thank You ladies for these wonderful tags! I will cherish them always!

Daddy's Roses

These are my favorite! They almost look like a cabbage and the pink and white are just beautiful!

I love this time of year because dad's roses seem to bloom and bloom and bloom! He loved his rose bushes and trees. I loved to help him trim them back when it was time. It's one of my fondest memories of him.

I was in the yard today with my sister and Kody (my puppy dog) and decided I needed to take some pictures of daddy's roses. They were in desparate need of pruning too. So after I snapped a few photos, we cut back the dead ones so the new blooms had room to open.

It's amazing how the colors and shapes of these roses have changed over the years. When we move, I think this will be the hardest thing to leave behind. We did plant some new trees in buckets in honor of our parents and we will be taking those with us. So I am going to enjoy them while I can. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Sweet Friends in Blogland!!!

I have to say I have made and met some amazing women through blogland. I would have NEVER considered traveling to other locations to spend time and create with people I did not know...until recently. I wanted to share a couple of lovely gifts sent to me during my recent recovery from surgery and my birthday that was just a few weeks ago.

My dear friend Sherry Williams was one of my roomies at Cassie's Marie Danses de Fleurs event. She was so gracious to cart me around all over the are, and she went above and beyond when she offered to ship several items (Three huge boxes) worth of flea market finds for me.

I would to you see what she had shipped to me for my birthday and get well...

This gorgeous shoe was hand made by Amada Label, Over the Top Studios. Isn't it lovely! Sherry is such a sweet and kind woman, you have NO IDEA!!!

Then Amada sent me this lovely Marie Antoinette Match box style box...it is beautiful!

Thank You Amada for the wonderful birthday wishes!

Then I received a Moulin Rouge Charm made by LuLu Kellog. SHe knew I wanted to go the the event but was having surgery, so she sent me a charm she made for the event! What a sweetie pie! Thanks LuLu!

I also want to thank Marsha Mees for sending me a mini doo to work on. I will do a separate post about that soon...I am finishing up an apron for her....Thanks Marsha!

Royal Albert Old English Rose

Isn't this the most amazingly royal pattern of pink and deep red roses you have ever seen? I love it! I love the shape and the color! I recently recieved this amazing cup and saucer from Caroline Outz Hay, in a swap on the Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group.

We were supposed to pick a tea cup and saucer that was German, English or French made. We had to add some of our favorite tea with it and a hand made gift item as well. This is what I received from Caroline! Isn't she AWESOME? WHen we told each other what we wanted I just told her I liked Pinks, Reds and roses and unusual shapes. She had no idea that I have been wanting to collect this particular pattern for quite some time. And this so happens to be my first addition. YAY!

This tea is shaped in a pod and when it steeps, it opens up into a flower! It is so cool! And it tastes yummy too! My niece, Angie was here helping me this weekend and we had to try out this tea. That's why you only see three bags in the photo...LOL

The next picture is showing the beautiful box Caroline made me. It has the softest pink and cream flowers on it and has been stamped with tea insignia. It is lovely!

You would thing that was enough right? Well not for Caroline! She actually decorated, painted, stamped and decopauged to the shipping box! It is amazingly pink and beautiful! THANK YOU CAROLINE!

I unfortunately did not photgraph Caroline's tea cup, so I will post it later after I beg her for a photo...lol It is a beautiful cream and pale blue with pale gold scrolling on it. It is beauiful!

THINGS WITH WINGS SWAP POST

Joanne over at Vintage Dragon Fly is hosting matchbox swaps. I participated in the last one, Things with Wings. I got to send to Jennifer Phillips, I had never covered a little match box before and it was alot of fun. Our theme was to make it and fill it with things with wings....It is was challenging for me to find teeny tiny things to put in these little treasure boxes...

I had this Frozen Charlotte I was determined to send as a fairy, since she wouldn't fit in the box I made her wings out of ribbon and tied her on to the top.

I received this awesome box of winged goodies from Kim Hanauer I love how she did the lace over the picture on the cover. And a little Frozen Charlotte Fairy inside! Thanks Kim!!!

My LOOT from my Florida Trip!

Webster's Flea Market! Here's a cute litte video that kinda captures the vastness of Webster's. It's from You Tube.

I have to tell you that one of the highlights of my trip was going to this flea market! Cassie had been showing pictures and blogging about all these awesome finds from Webster's Flea Market. Especially for Vintage jewelry and buttons. So I packed light for the trip just for this day!

After Marie's Danses de Fleurs event, on Monday several of us went to Websters. I had the pleasure of riding with Sherry, and we didn't even make it to the flea market before we found a yard sale, stopped and we all (Sherry, Stephanie, Julie Ann and Me) found some awesome bargains and made our first purchases! BE prepared for lotsa BLING!!!!

When we arrived at Webster's we met up with Cassie, Bryanna, Marian, and Joanna and off we went! Our first stop was a booth that had crates full of vintage buttons and you could fill a small zip lock baggie for $3.00 (the bag didn't even have to close) You should have seen us all digging in those crates! Next to the crates was a table where the man's wife was, and she was going through packaging and pricing glass and rhinestone buttons. OMGNESS! I went NUTS! I ended up getting all these for $40.00 and at least half of them are glass!

I think I was there for about an hour!

Now this antique sterling silver spoon and cameo at the top of this next picture I bought at a table a few feet down from the button guy. It was actually my first purchase. Can you believe I got both items for $10.00? That doesn't happen around this neck of the California woods! The rest of the jewels in this pic and the next few pics were from the vintage jewelry lady...

Do you see the Brooch (above)on the left that has the fire opal stone in the center with the crown crest at the top and the drop? It is a vintage Sarah Coventry piece. My gramma used to sell SC when I was little and I remember playing with her sample kits....It is a signed or stamped piece as well.

As I said, the next stop (with a few detours along the way) was Cassie's favorite vintage jewelry lady! I think I was in Heaven. This must be what it looks like when the streets are lined with gold and jewels!!!

Look at all the rhinestone bracelets! My favorite one is the three strand with the fire opal gemmies, it is stunning!

This next picture shoes some stamped altered art pieces that I got from another vendor. They were a little pricey but I have not found this much around here. and the pale blue and cream pearl necklace and earring set was a steal! The lady had it for awhile and it was at the end of the day and she gave it to me for $8.00!

Now these double strands of vintage crystal necklaces I got from the vintage jewelry lady too. She originally told me $25. for two. I ended up with four and she came down even more on them when it was all said and done. Four sets of double stranded Vintage crystals! OMGNESS!

More bits and baubles, and the crystal chandalier pieces (including the blue one) I got all of them for $1.00. Amazing!

It just goes on and on...I got these goodies on Saturday while we were in Plant City. The rhinestone buckles were off a pair of shoes I bought for really cheap at a second hand store. The shoes weren't even my size! I got them for the buckles which are sturdy and in perfect condition.

I used cardstock for the base then ironed on muslin to the back and sewed vintage trims and ribbons to them. I used stickles glitter to highlight. I think they turned out really cute for my first time making buntings...lol I can't wait to see everyone's creations.

I want to share some more of my photos of my awesome Florida trip. I am still waiting on some of my goodies to arrive before I take all my loot pics, but here are some more to share with everyone and a few more awesome ladies that I met there.

This is Heidi Wallingford, Birds of a Feather. She is the most amazing person! What a sweet sweet soul, and she can do beautiful things with crepe paper, vintage wall paper and lace...OMG! I did a make and take project on Vendor night that she taught us. it was a lace and button bracelet. I wear it all the time! In fact I haven't even taking a pic of it yet.

Heidi also taught us how to make a beautiful keepsake box out of an old cigar box. (I am not finished with mine yet), but here are some pics of Heidi's and Marsha Mee's, Sassy mini Dolls.

Wonderful Memories and Awesome Friendships!

I know it has been a month since I went to my first ever art retreat event. Marie's Danses de Fleurs seems like it was yesterday but has been 4 weeks already! I guess coming home then having surgery and recovering has made the time fly faster than I expected.

Before I left, my beautiful niece, Angie, was giving me Marie Antoinette posing tips and wearing my wig...looks so much better on her than me!

I was pretty busy before the trip making items for swaps and some goody bags to go into everyone's Welcome kit. One swap I was in I made these cute little money market bags. They have awesome zippers on the back to carry your money and keys in when shopping at the market.

I printed a graphic on fabric and ironed it onto the front. I then made shabby ruffles to attach to the top and added venetian lace to the bottom. I made flowers using fabrics, satins, chiffons, and tulling and added seam binding and lace to the top.

I also filled them with ephemera, rhinestones and pearls, shabby pens and other other goodies. So much fun!

I made these Marie Eat Cake soy candles in altoid type tins and covered them with a french pastry decal that I made using graphics from Cassi's Etsy Shop.

These went into a goody bag that had lotsa of other fun stuff!

Here's the bag I made for me and the lavendar one I made for my niece, Angie.

My flower is centered with an old pin I recently purchased at an estate sale..

Here are a few of my dear friends I met: These two girls were my roomies and we hit it off immediately!

This is Julie Ann Grakowski and Stephanie Watt. Julie is from New York and is getting married this summer! She is the sweetest! I was her swap partner last spring during a cake box swap that Cassie hosted on her ezine. And I got to swap wrist cuffs with her at this event. (pictures of those to come later)

Stephanie is from Spokane, Washington. She is a sweetie pie and makes the most beautiful Marie Art. She and I have very similar likes and styles. We both LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Pink! I have received many hand made items from Steph in the Marie Mail Art group in the past.

ANd my other roomie Sherry Williams the sweet Georgia Peach! She was so kind to haul us all around the whole weekend and take us shopping. She is also shipping me all the goodies I couldn't fit in my suitcases that I bought while I was there! LOL I first met Sherry on the Marie Mail Art group. Sherry is the sweetest thing and I was instantly comfortable around her.

This is me and Sherry on the swing outside Memory Lane Antiques, near Webster Flea Market. We closed the flea market down and still wanted to shop! LOL

This is Marsha Mees, Sassy Mini Dolls and I adore her! She is a Cali girl too and we have made plans to meet up in a month or two. I can hardly wait!

In this picture is LuLu Kellog the Southern Bell, She is truly a southern lady and so funny and fun to be around. I wish I would have had more time to spend with her and Marsha... LuLu is the cutie patootie in the middle with Sherry and Marsha on either side....

I had the best time making things to swap. I also made a couple pair of shoes for the event. I will post pics of those in a day or two. I even won Third Prize in

TWO Weeks from today! Marie's Danse des Fleurs Event

The countdown begins! I am so excited to be going all the way across this wonderful nation to Florida for Cassandra's Marie's Danse des Fleurs event in two weeks! EEEKKK! I am so looking forward to meeting Cassie and all the other ladies I have admired for years. I am finishing up some projects for swaps and goodie bags then on to packing! Trying to fit everything in my suitcase while still leaving room for all the goodies I will be bringing home! LOL Maybe I can just wear my PJ's all weekend...LOL (just kidding ladies) I guess I can always ship my clothes back if I need to make room.

I am also staying an extra day along with many other ladies, to go shopping with Cassie at some of her favorite Flea Market places!!! YIPPEE!!!! Thanks Cassie for hosting such a wonderful event! And thanks to all the ladies that will be teaching and providing projects for us all weekend! I have never gone to an art event before and I am glad I chose this one to be my first! (hopefully first of many)

I ordered my new Iphone so I hope I have it all figured out so I can post pics while I am there and keep everyone posted on all the happenings! Cassie is hosting a grand ball in Marie fashion! I can't wait to see all the wonderful costumes....

So, between feeling horrible, temperatures going up and down from hot to really hot, and school starting ALREADY....I feel like there was no vacation at all! LOL...I want to say a great big THANK YOU!!!! to Cassandra VanCuren My Artful Adventures for giving my blog a makeover...Isn't it prefect???? Thanks sweet, sweet Cassie!!!! Cassie is the most talented girl I have seen! She can do ANYTHING!!!! In fact, she and I did a swap a few months ago and it was sea themed. I made this bag for some of her goodies. I still need to take pictures of the awesome treasure box, bracelet and necklace she made me and the ton of other things she sent me. But here is the bag I made, I even made the roses and leaves too....(from Cassie's awesome tutorials)

I used a linen cotton blend heavy duty fabric for the bag and stamped a seashell scene across the top. I trimmed it with Venetian lace and a tea stained vintage lace.

I used vintage satin ribbon in a creme color for the focal rose. I also made a couple of blue flowers and green leaves with satin ribbon.

I added a couple of broken vintage jewelry pieces with different types of pearls and added sparkle glitter to the sea shell stampings. I like the way it turned out.

THINGS I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON...

This apron was commissioned by our Pastor Debby, as a gift to another Pastor (Harriet) who lives in the Ohio area. My sister and I made the apron by taking two different patterns and merging them into one we liked! The skirt of the apron is double tiered...

I made this rose out of matching fabric then used a vintage pearl earring piece for the center. We also sent a red flower for her to change out if she wanted to. I haven't heard yet if the apron was a hit, but I am sure it was!

A friend of mine, Marla, asked me to make a crown for her grand baby Keala's birthday. It was also Keala's mom, Mattie's birthday so I made her a crown too. Keala loves Horton and Jo Jo from Dr. Seuss...so I thought it appropriate to adorn her crown with them...

Isn't it adorable? It was totally different than what I had planned, which happens to me quite often....

I wanted to try a vintage feel with Mattie's Crown, what do you think?

Petite Bead Box Swap Reveal (Better Late than Never...)

As promised (just a few days late though) I wanted to reveal my lovely beads and boxes I received for the Petite Bead Box Swap last month. It was hosted by Cassandra Van Curen of My Artful Adventures. You can read more about that here. So anyway I had three lovely ladies for partners and recieved some of the most amazing beads and boxes. Here are a few shots of my goodies:

These beautiful beads(above)came from Terry Frias and they arrived in a lovely clear box with a gorgeous aqua ribbon (the box did not photograph well at all) but aren't the beads just amazing? This adorable box (above) was made by Shelley Overholt. Her adorable blog is Honey lamb and I. She filled the box with the amazing beads (above) in pinks and creams with some vintage peices as well. I love the clear crystal heart and the ivory vintage pearls as well! Thanks so much Shelley!

Now Marsha Mees spoiled me with two boxes, one was actually a little paper purse that held the petitie box she made as well. Marsha makes the most amazing dolls and you can find them on her blog at Sassy Mini Dolls Both adorable! the box was filled with amazing pinks, creams and clears, Czech glass, crystals and pearls. She also added a lovely vintage piece of jewlery with pink stones. Thanks Marsha! Everything is perfect!

My sister and I have been making aprons and soy candles....It has been a blast! A friend of mine from Church opened a flower and gift shop in Feb. She asked me to put some of my handmade items in the shop. I have also been helping her and have learned how to arrange flowers. She makes beautiful arrangements! Her shop is called Petals and Presents. It is located in downtown Exeter, Ca.

Words are not enough to express how blessed I feel by all of your posts, letters, cards, tags, prayers and thoughts you have offered my family and I during this time of great loss. There are so many people that have offered encouragement and support through this blog and other on-line venues. It is truly amazing how special you have all made me feel, and to know that none of us have even actually met in person, I feel as if I have known you all for years. I plan to visit each of your blogs and leave a personal note in the next few days, but I did want to send out this post to you all to let you know that you have blessed my heart and I will never forget it! Momma's Journey Home

Today (January 26, 2010) at 1:25 pm, our loving momma left on a journey that she could only take with Jesus. She left this world and is now safe, whole and healed with a clear mind and perfect body. The angels are rejoicing at her arrival and she is dancing and singing with my dad and sister who have been waiting for her for several years now.

It is a hard thing to release your parents to leave you when your whole heart wants to say, "Noooooo, stay with me!!!" But after 84 years of a wonderful life, she was ready to go home.

Momma has had Dementia and Alzheimers for about 5-6 years. She has been in advanced stages for 2-3 years. My sister, brother-in-law and I cared for her in our home until last February when we could no longer do it. We realized we could not keep her safe or make her happy in our environment. So we (my sisters Bev and Belinda) made the agonizing decision to place her in a facility where they specialized in Dementia and Alzheimer care. She was happy there and well cared for.

About a week and a half ago, we received a call from the staff there stating that mom was acting differently. 10 days ago, we received a call they were taking her to the hospital beacause they suspected she may have had some small strokes. The ER Dr's kept her there overnight and she returned to her home. But she quickly got worse and within a few short days, she would be leaving us.

Fortunately for us mom was very specific about how she wanted things to go at the end of her life. She asked me to be her Power of Attorney before she got Dementia and she made her wishes known about all the what if's. I have to say, even though I knew she wanted nothing done, no heroics, no tubes, no life support,...It takes every ounce of faith and obediance to not say, "Do whatever you can to save her!" After feeling so helpless the last few years in not being able to do anything for momma because of this horrible disease, We were confident that carrying out her wishes was the right thing to do.

It was the Grace of God that she passed when she did today. My sister and I had an awesome opportunity to wash her face and hands, annoint her and help prepare her for her arrival to heaven. I felt such a release and peace knowing she was there and not here anymore. I will miss my mom terribly, as I do my dad and sister, but I praise God and rejoice in the knowledge that I will see her again someday and she will be rejoicing with the angels at my arrival! I am so blessed to have been able to help prepare her for her journey. And I understand now that she had to take this journey without us, but I have comfort in the fact that she was not alone, she was with Jesus and is in His presence forever!

I know the bible says we are to honor our parents and I have to say I was the one that was honored today! I am honored to have been raised by a wonderful, loving, caring, kind and beautiful mother and I pray that the legacy I leave behind will also honor her. There's a song by Randy Travis that says, "It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, It's what you leave behind you when you go." Momma left a legacy of Grace, Strength and Love behind for us to carry on.

We are gonna miss you momma. Give dad and Barbara a hug and kiss for us too, and we will see you when we get there!

It's about time to put away the Christmas decorations. I could leave them out all year. I love these silver candle sticks (which btw, will not be put away...) and the glitter deer, snowflakes and balls....

The thing about living in the central valley of California, the closest thing we get to snow is fog and ice...LOL so these white and silver decorations are our White Chrsitmas...

And I had to include my two newest additions..My white and silver Snow lady...and my vintage glitter teddy bear.

The Last Pink Saturday of 2009!

The last Pink Saturday of 2009! Thank you Beverly (How Sweet the Sound) for hosting these wonderful Saturdays! I wanted to show you my pink tree when it was lit up with the pink candy lights. Isn't it cute?

And......I wanted to show you my newest Pink addition....I got a Pink soldering kit for Christmas from my sister, Bev! It came from Simply Swank! It is too cool!

And an adorable pink bag to keep it all in! It even has a crown on it! I also got some wonderful Pink Paris storage boxes from my niece, Starbucks gift card from my nephew, Pink Cupcake PJ's from My sis from Pajama Gram! They came in a cool pink mesh hat box....I love them! And some See's Sugar Free chocolates!!! YIPEE!

I will have to tell you about the Mississippi Mud Cake that my sister made from scratch! OMG! (and no it was not sugar free, but I saved up all my sugar so I could eat some!) It was a recipe from Paula Deen! The absolute BEST cake I have ever eaten!!!! That story for another post.

Merry Christmas Blog Friends! Have a Blessed Day...

I hope all of you have a great holiday. This is a bittersweet Christmas for us this year. Our Mother, although she is much safer now, is not at home with us this year. I thank the Lord for her and thank Him for finding a secure and loving place for her to be. We will go see her and spend some time with her, but it will be different this year.

I do appreciate the time we had with her and my dad and will spend time remembering our childhood christmas' What I am most greatful for this year is God's love for me; His blessing me with family and friends that are wonderfully faithful people; security and health! I am anxious for the new year and am waiting to see what He has planned for me.

Alice's Altered Tea Cup

The Mad Tea Party group recently had an altered tea cup swap (In which I am late getting mine off...) Being sick just put a tremendous damper on all my projects....

This tea cup is for KeKe and I will be mailing it out in the morning. It was challenging for me, just finding a vintage cup that I liked that wasn't too over the top. Most of the tea cups I like are very victorian and lotsa roses on them....

I found this Bavarian tea cup at one of my favorite antique stores and it was only $5.00 (it has a small chip on the cup) but since KeKe won't be drinking out of it, I didn't think Alice would mind.

I used paper millinery roses and shredded paper, netting, tulle and a pink feather and sat Alice up on the feather. I added glitter and trim and some rhinestones...It was fun...

A Favorite Christmas Decoration! It's even PINK!

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound has asked us to share this month about our Christmas Favorites...this week it is our favorite decorations. That's my pink tree above. So here's the story...

All of my decorations have been in storage for five years and I cannot get to them. I have wanted a Pink Christmas Tree for years! So, this year I found this cute one at Michael's Craft store and it was the last one and was 40% off. (first reason for being favorite...LOL) I had purchased some of Jorabeel's "Candy lights" last year and was not able to use them because last year was THE worst Chrsitmas ever! (My mom was in advanced stages of Dementia and Alzheimers and still living at home with us and we were a mess!)

Okay, so the tree is pink, the lights are pink, there is a pink boa tucked into, white glittery birds, white and silver glittery snowflakes, glittery silver and gold old fashioned ornaments, keys, white roses, pink and white ice cream cones, pink and green glittery stocking and star (from my friend Ginger...I promise you will get yours this coming week Ginger)

Oh and there are crystal beaded garlands in and around the tree that my sister bought for me(along with the cool little birds), There is a silver and white glittery snowflake with a pink glittery crown on it that I made this that is toward the top of the tree! And one of my crystal rhinestone tiaras is hanging on the tree also!

Oh and I can't miss telling you about the little Hummel boy caroling next to the tin glittered church at the base of the tree. This little Hummel boy is the only one that my mom ever had. She inherited from her older sister who was going to collect them but this was all she was able to get. He is numbered and signed on the bottom. The church was a gift for my sister from me about two years ago. I got it at a place we love to shop called "Good Goodes" A wonderful place!

So, even though this little pink tree is brand new, It is packed full of memories already! I hop you enjoy it as much as we do! It is the only Christmas we have up since our house is totally torn up for the remodel...lol...but we have our Foo Foo pink tree!!!

I will be around to visit later in the day, I am going to a place up north of here called "Christmas in The Barn" It is awesome too! I can't wait to go, it has been 3or 4 years since we last went and our mom was with us and still lucid. I will take pics if I can to post on my blog when I get back! Sweet Christmas Memories

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound has asked us to share a favorite childhood Christmas memory. When I began thinking about this the other day, this story came to my mind immediately.

I am the youngest of four girls (no boys) and to make it even more interesting, I am 10 years younger than the next sister, 12 years younger than the one before that and my eldest sister was 16 when I was born. Needless to say, I was a bit spolied at Christmas! (I know, hard to believe, but true)

At Christmas-time I loved getting our tree and decorating it. I was never allowed to put on the tinsel (the sinlge strands that came in a flat box) My oldest sister Barbara, was quite the perfectionist! She put the tinsel on, one strand at a time! Oh my gosh, that did not work for me...We always had to wait until dad got home from work to decorate the tree because he ALWAYS put the lights on it. They were those colored bulbs that were about an inch wide and an inch and a half tall...no blinking either. And the paint would chip off and eventually we had a lot more clear ones than colored...LOL

Anyway, I decided that I would surprise everyone and have the tinsel already on the tree when they all got home. I diligently started placing the strands on one string at a time. And it seemed like hours had gone by and I still had almost all of the box of tinsel still left, so I decided to just a few at a time. Surely, they would not be able to tell....Well, after I emptied all four boxes of tinsel in clumps all around the bottom two feet of the tree (that was as high as I could reach) I stepped back to admire my work! I was so proud of myself....until everyone came in and said..."BECKY! What have you done?" My sisters were so disgusted because I had ruined the tree and I was about to cry when my dad said it was the most beautiful tree we had decorated in a long time...Then he winked at my sisters to keep them from pointing out exactly how bad the tree actually looked.

I miss my dad most at Christmas! It was his favorite holiday and he delighted in torturing us while he SLOWLY ate his dinner before we could open our presents on Christmas Eve...LOL He always had to have that one last cup of ever so large a coffee...

I really miss that silver tinsel, do they even still make it? Hmmmm, I will have to see if I can find it...

It's Gonna Be a Pink Christmas for Me!

I am making some pink a sugary ornaments this year! They are so much fun! This one above I used a chipboard crown and painted it pink then added mica. It is attached to a white snowflake and a sliver snowflake!

This one I made using a cupcake image I got from Cassi's Creations Etsy store. SHe has some pages with several different cakes and cupcakes! I am making some more that I will post later in the week using more of Cassi's images along with some other fun stuff! Take care and God Bless you all! ~Becs

Spoiled by my Dear Blog, Alice and Marie Friends

I have been sick way too long! I am finally feeling better and hopefully the antibiotics will stick with me this time...I am really tired of eating crackers, toast, oatmeal and bananas...LOL! I think it has been weeks since I ate any food with substance! I think I forgot what Pizza even tastes like. LOL! And my poor Brother-in-law has had this even longer than me....My sister thinks she is Florence Nightengale!!! Which reminds me...why has she not been sick? Hmmmm, she must be the carrier! (we all live in the same house in case you all were wondering...LOL)

Ok, let's get on the the good stuff! As you all know by now, I belong to some awesome online mail art and Ning groups. Well, my friend Rebecca Allinson belongs to two that I am in, Marie Antoinette and Mad Tea Party (for us Alice in Wonderland lovers) Well, the other day I recieved this HUMUNGOUS package from Rebecca. I am wondering, "Did I forget about something?" "I am not expecting anything from Rebecca" "At least not THIS BIG!" Well, I opened it up and found the most amazingly beautiful gift inside! She ssent me a Marie Inspired Christmas goodie box!

The box was in antiqued gold tones, with deep greens and cranberry reds (which happen to be my favorite colors along with pink!) Here are several pictures. Each little package was in clear plastic with pretty paper closures...I received ribbons, papers, vintage fabrics, beads, trims, handmade flowers, birds, a marie ornament,...well, just look at all the goodies....

In these pictures there are ribbon roses and flowers that Rebecca made herself, feathers and roses, velvet trims and handmade Christmas tags...

Here are beads and trims and jewelry bits and vintage crepe paper with a pretty trimmed edge...and my beautiful Marie ornament!

Now this week, one of my friends and amazing artists on the Marie group, Terri Gordon, is one of THE nicest people I would love to actually meet! She knew I had been having a hard time and she sent me one of her amazing wall hangings...I have been coveting them for awhile now...LOL! She also sent the cutest ATC and tag she also made! I will cherish these forever! Thanks Terri G! You are such a blessing...

Now, a couple of surprises last week! I won TWO blog giveaways! The most amazing bloggers that I love to visit. Stefanie from Rose Petals and Rust celebrated her birthday and I got a present! How cool is that? And when I emailed her my addy, we found out that we grew up in my town and she lives 25 minutes away....in Exeter, Where I go through everyday on my way to work. In fact Exeter is where I attend church, and some of my favorite stores are in Exeter, and we plan to move there when we sell our home here....What a small world... This is what I got from Stefanie....

I thought I was show some of the most unusual pinks I have seen. I will start off with the first, a set of pink assault rifles. Where were these babies when I was on patrol????

What a pretty flask! I would be afraid I would drop it or lose it if I were drinking that much! LOL

I sure hope this is a girl storm trooper, cause "Pink Vader" does not sound intimidating AT ALL!!!

Cassi's Creations Design Team Projects

Here are two Altered Art Journals I made using images from Cassi's Creations on Etsy. I used composition notebook journals and did some digital images then printed and affixed them to my covers. The insides and backs are covered with coordinating papers i had for scrapbooking. I sanded the edges and applied walnut inks for a distressed look. I added glitter, ribbons and fibers and a small matching tag to finsih them. They are listed on my website http://www.rebeccarosedesigns.com and I have some more listed in my etsy shop. It has been a busy season!

I have been busy with a special order and halloween swaps. Here are some pictures of what I have been up to...

A Classic Hollywood Actress ATC Swap on Swap bot. I did a digital collage, then I layered it with several layers of Audrey then used glitter and flowers to embellish.

This is a Gone with the Wind themed ATC for swap on Swap bot. I layered Scarlett onto another picture of Gone with the Wind scene of Tara...

These pictures are of a goodie box I made for a swap in the Marie Antoinette Mail Art group. It is for Robin Sanchez. I used a wooden box then decopauged it with tissue paper. I added a card stock image that I made using Cassandra's (Cassi's Creations on Etsy) image of Marie and added glitter and other embellishments. I also decopauged the inside then filled it with ephemera, ribbon, trim, glitter, beads, flowers and other goodies....

These pictures are of a Marie Masquerade Ball Dress I made for a swap on the Marie Group. I used a paper mache dress form and decopauged it with Tissue paper, then attached a painted wooden spool as the base and added a wooden finial for the top. I used tulle, chiffon and some scrap pieces of lace and satin to make the dress. I added a feather pick to the back and made a chiffon rose and bow which I also added to the back. This dress will be traveling to Brazil for Adrienne.

The next set of pictures are of some ATC's I made as part of Cassi's Creations Design Team. I used her images and collaged the ATC's by cutting and layering.

For the two fairies, I used Cassie's images and created the fairies then I collaged them onto ATC's using some of her other images. All of the images can be found in her Etsy Shop.

Queenie and I had High Tea on Saturday Afternoon!

"Queenie" TADS (Traveling Paper Art Doll Symposium) Paperdoll #4 is getting ready to leave and journey on to the Big Apple!

While she was here she told me how much she enjoyed Tea parties. So my sister and I decided to give her a Tea since we love tea parties. Queenie wanted to go shopping for a new dress and hat. So, off we went to a local boutique called Al a mode. She found a beautiful pink dress and a matching Audrey Hepburn type hat. She also found some pink rhinestones and made a necklace and bracelet.

Saturday was a warm summer day (yes, I did say summer, as it was 101 degrees at the end of September!) So we went out on the patio. We used some of our favorite tea cups and had tea and cupcakes! Yummmmmm.... The sun shone on the crystals and made a perfect crystal glow! Queenie talked about her recent visit to Australia and showed us pictures of her trip.

We talked about our dreams, our plans, dresses and parties and out love for girly things! I shared a quote with her by Henry James, Portrait of a Lady who saqid this about tea, "There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

What a true sentiment! We were sad to see Queenie leave, but she was excited to go to the Big Apple (New York) to visit some more new friends from TADS. Before she left we packed her clothes nicely in her case for her travel.

The Holidays are getting closer! I love Thanksgiving and Christmas. Fall and Winter are my favorite times of the year. I just wish we had more of them where I live. We are still having summer weather here. I am ready for the cold to come...

As most of you know, I am a member of Cassandra's Design Team. I use her images for my artwork. I have three ATC's here in which I used her images of Marie, her roses and banners images as well. Autumn Harvest Blessings

I have been looking for ATC and other mixed media swaps and came across Swap-bot. It is a great place to get involved in all different kinds of swaps. I entered the Autumn ATC swap and made this for my partner. I had alot of fun with creating my digital collage, then I collaged several layers and then glittered and added "harvest blessings". The beautiful flowers I used came from Cassi's creations on Etsy. You can find a ton of awesome graphics at her store.

Up to My Chin in Shoes!!!!

Well, I never thought I would say it, but it only took my sister and I Seven (7) Hours to make 25 paper shoes! Oh My Gosh! The women of my church are having a tea in the morning on Pastor Debby's patio. After tea, we are going for a walk in downtown Exeter, to go shopping. Exeter has a new Boutique called "Al La Mode" and it is exquisite right out of Paris I am sure! The owner, Jessica is a sweet heart!

Anyway, back to the shoes. I thought they would make a cute party favor and would work well as napkin and utensil holders. The color scheme was with fall colors, so this is what we came up with! Cute huh? Here are some more pictures of the shoes...Let me know what you think.

Victorian Ladies ATC/ACEO cards

Featured Favorite Artist - Terri Gordon

Terri Gordon is my first featured artist. I am so excited to share her work with you. She is amazingly talented. She just started her blog, Designs by Terri Gordon.

Terri is a fellow Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group artist and is also part of Cassi's Creations Design Team on Etsy. She uses ribbon in ways you would not believe. Her creations are divine!

I asked Terri to tell me a little about her self. This was her reply, "I have been doing crafts all my life, I did a little of everything, but I get bored easily. It was a few years ago, I saw all the beautiful scrapbook papers and thought I have to do something with that. Then I found this wonderful medium of Altered Art. When my youngest son went off to college, I decided to sell my artwork, at first I was very nervous, I wondered who would pay me for my art and was it good enough. Then I just jumped into it and I am having so much fun. Call me crazy, but I love to cut things out of paper, the more intricate the better.

I have been married to a wonderful man and artist (Medical Illustrator) for 32 years now and have two wonderful son's. One is 26, who lives in Seattle and was just married and the other son is 20 and a junior at University of Michigan. I work part time for my husband's business, doing the accounting. Since I have joined Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group, I have had so much fun. the artists are so wonderful, and the best part is I finally get to use all the beautiful notions and ribbons that I have been collecting for years."

Tiny Artist Kit

To make these cards, I used images from the collage sheets and then collaged several layers of the images for a three dimensional look. I also embellished with glitter, buttons, millinery flowers, rhinestones and ribbon. Each card is adhered to a sturdy chipboard card. The edges have been distressed using Walnut ink stain.

I am so excited! I am on Cassandra's Design Team for Cassi's Creations on Etsy. We will be making art using her digital images. Isn't that cool??? I made this Marie Inspired Charm Bracelet for my Etsy shop. You can find it in my Etsy shop. I made the photo charms and put together all the other charms with glass pearls and Swarovski Crystals. I also featured hand made artisan Lampwork beads by my dear friend Dhea Powers of Fire and Glass Designs.

Another Marie Swap packed up and ready to go!

We had a French Stamp ATC Swap in the Marie Antoinette Group. I gotta say, this was a hard one for me. I am not really sure why, but everything I tried I didn't like. I finally settled on these three shoes and these three below...

On the French Marie shoes, I stamped them then cut them out and colored them with pens then added them to cards that were digital imaged and I also stamped on them, then I decorated with embellishments. I really wanted to do a purple shoe, but the colors did not work out well.

On the Maries, two I stamped directly onto the cards and the last one I did like the shoes. They were also colored and embellished. They will be travelling to their new homes tomorrow.

I have also been working on my digital collages. I am making a Dream book with these images and swapping digital images with others in the group Digital Whispers. It is really forcing me to think outside the box, but I am learning alot too. Here are a few other images I have been working on.

And I am also working on a Romantic Digital Images swap in a group called Etsy Cottage Style. This is also a fun one...here is my first collage for this group.

Is Big Hair Back? It's All About The HAIR!

We are doing a swap in our Marie Antoinette group. I had so much fun with the hair on these girls! I made six for swap and one extra for our lovely Queen of MAMA, Cassandra!

Have you ever worked with the real fine curly doll hair....? OMG, it is slippery! I had it EVERYWHERE! It was funny.

What else is so funny is, I used to have hair like that! LOL, the 80's!

Ribbon and Fabric and Shells.... Oh My!

The first pictures are of all the pretty ribbon I got from one of my favorite stores in Cambria, California. Cambria is a little beach town that I have been to several times for women's retreat for church. There are awesome memories for me there. Well during one of my retreats I stumbled across this little store owned by a retired couple. It has vintage everything! Postcards, ephemera, glass, gadgets, and French and specialty ribbon! The first picture shows some of the scrap ribbon packs she sells for a dollar! Oh My Gosh! and some other ribbons I picked out. I try to get things I don't see around here when I go.

This next picture shows more of my ribbon. Pink and brown, turquoise and brown, pink with "Mon Amie" on it, lavender striped, fleur di lis in pink and black and an old vintage lace card with two kinds of vintage ribbon on it!

The next two pictures are of fabric scraps we got in Arroyo Grande. These were $5.00per bag. We got two bags. The fabric is high quality apolstery and brocade fabrics...

THese next pictures are of some more awesome fabrics we got in Morro Bay. A place called "The Cotton Ball". I have been going there for years! I always shop the remnants baskets. They have a huge selection! We just love it.

These are all the shells we got at Morro Bay. They are so cool. I am gonna embellish some of them and the rest are going in my new bathroom.

And last, but not least...while we were in San Luis Obispo shopping (of course) I went to another favorite store called Paper Sky. I got these cute little envies and ribbon. The bird nest came from Cambria.

Well, I can't wait to use some of my new goodies. I am gonna make some ribbon flowers and fabric flowers too. So stay cool, God Bless, and create something fun! Becs

Home from the Beach and back into the HEAT!

This is the lovely view from our room all week in Avila Beach. It was so cool, the breeze everyday and then listening to the ocean every night! It was so relaxing! It never got above 70 degrees the whole time we were there. I ate fresh fish and clam chowder, went to all of my favorite places and slept. Family and friends joined us during the week, it was great!

I missed my bubba terribly though and I understand he was mad and didn't eat much. Since I have been home, I have not left his sight! What a great feeling to be loved so unconditionally....

I have some pictures to take of some of my goodies I bought....ribbon, shells, fabric... and I will p ost them later.

I had some time to work in Photo Shop and made a few collages

We are going to the beach for a whole week! It is gonna be so relaxing. The only thing is, it is supposed to be hot over there and we are trying to get away from the heat over here! It is also a day to remember and to lift up in prayer those that are still fighting for America and our freedom. Carole's Summer Fun Swap

Well I have to say, it is certainly Summer here in Sunny Central California! It has been 100 degrees plus for the last week and I am sweltering! I HATE THE HEAT! I am sure looking forward to vacation at the beach where it is in the 70's and 80's....just two more weeks....

One of the groups I belong to, "ETSY COTTAGE STYLE" hosted a Summer Fun Swap and my partner is Carole, A Bohemian Market I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with Carole and get to know a little bit about her. She loves McKenzie Childs pottery and the colors of green and orange. Our swap required a handmade item, an item with flowers and an item with a nest. I made Carole a couple of pieces of jewelry then I made this box and the card for her as well. The card has a picture she had posted on her blog that she really liked so I used it to make a card for her. I had a great time making the box and the jewelry pieces. I hope she likes it.

Digital Collage Class by Gail Schmidt

Do you know how frustrating it is to have a graphics program and not have A CLUE how to use it? I had PSP and never really understood how to use it correctly. Then my PC crashed and everyone online I talked to was using Photo Shop. So, on my birthday in April, my sister and Brother-in-law got me Photo Shop Elements 7. YIPPEE!!! I installed it immediately to find that my Vista did not like it. Of course it didn't! Nothing is ever easy with me and PC's....

So I came across Gail Schmidt and her Creative Workshops Ning group. I have never seen such amazing talent in my life.... So I signed up for the Digital Collage class....that was a month ago...LOL After reading everyone's posts, I found that my Vista was not going to allow me to use her videos....

I was elated when Gail sent an email stating she was having issues with the downloads and decided to put her videos on the ning group. YAY and Praise God!!!

So today, I did the first tutorial which is getting to know the tools and layers....My first attempt was the Ghostly Horse....here is my first try....

Well I was hooked, so I spent the rest of the evening on the second lesson called "Cherish" my collage is up above. I really liked the way she turned out although it looks nothing like Gails...LOL

Anyway, I hope to continue making some collages for my altered art and would appreciate any feedback from you all.

This is my amazing crown made for me by Tristan It was for a swap on Marie Antoinette Mail Art Ning Group. I just adore it! And it looks so pretty on my hand made vintage bear that my dad and mom got for me years ago.

As you can see, I love crowns and Teddy Bears of all kinds! I also had the opportunity to make a crown in the swap for Stephanie Watt a wonderfully talented artist. You can see some of her creations at her flick page.

Daddy's Empty Chair...

Good afternoon! I hope you all are having a great weekend. My sister sent me this in an email, and I may have forwarded it on to some of you, but since it is so close to Father's day, and I miss my daddy so much....I thought I would post this here:

Daddy's Empty Chair~
"A man's daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her father.

When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows.

An empty chair sat beside his bed. The minister assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit.

"I guess you were expecting me, he said.

'No, who are you?" said the father.

The minister told him his name and then remarked,

"I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew I was going to show up,"

"Oh yeah, the chair," said the bedridden man.

"Would you mind closing the door?" Puzzled, the minister shut the door.

"I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man.

"But all of my life I have never known how to pray.

At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my head."

I abandoned any attempt at prayer," the old man continued,

"Until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me,

"Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus. Here is what I suggest."

"Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair.

It's not spooky because he promised, 'I will be with you always'.

"Then just speak to him in the same way you're doing with me right now."

"So, I tried it and I've liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day.

I'm careful though If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm."

The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue on the journey.

Then he prayed with him, anointed him with oil, and returned to the church.

Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her daddy had died that afternoon.

Did he die in peace?" he asked.

Yes, when I left the house about two o'clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me how much he loved me and kissed me on the cheek.

When I got back from the store an hour later, I found him dead.

But there was something strange about his death. Apparently, just before Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed.

What do you make of that?"

The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said, "I wish we could all go like that."

It is comforting to me to know that my dad was able to talk with Jesus in his last days. He told us all about it. I know Jesus carried him when he could no longer carry himself. To those of you that still have your daddys...take some time during the next week to tell them how much you love and appreciate them.

And I just had to show you these....on Marie Mail Art group we did an ATC binder Jam. There were four of us. One persone started the binders then they went around and each person added more to them. It was so cool, and the binders are for storing all our ATC's....Very fun....Anyway, the picture above is what the fronts and backs look like.

Marie Antoinette Elegance Enshrined Altered Tin

Once again Marie Antoinette Mail Art group has inspired me with another challenge. This time we made a shrine by altering a tin. I used an Altoid tin, painted it a pale green, then covered it with paper. For the front I used a postcard image, then layered an Eiffel Tower image. I added a brass metal floral piece then added Swarovski Rhinestones to that. I also included a broken earring from my mom's old jewelry stuff. I antiques the edges of the tin, then covered the rim and back with more cardstock.

On the inside cover, I used an image of a young lady reading mail. I added a Fleur di Lis and rhinestone to it and a crown on the young lady.

On the inside of the bottom, I made a 3D collage using french script paper for the backing, and shredded green and pink paper, An image of Marie Antoinette (one of my favorites), then I cut out a window from another image and had the Eiffel Tower pop up. I added millinery flowers, rhinestones, a paper butterfly and a clay rose...

In this swap, all the people signed up then we made the tin for the person after us on the list. My tin has been shipped to Patricia. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did making it! You can check out her art work on her blog, Coquettish Fleur.

This was emailed to me today. It pierced my heart! Please read... True Story.....

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were. A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the back. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall.

When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must Have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:
'Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base:

Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early bird special?

Any response would be appreciated.

Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets' On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four- ship fly by of F-1 6s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques. Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a. m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend. Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured..

A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, 'Who m do we thank for the morning air show? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you....Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Altered book Swap for Marie Antoinette Mail art group

Doesn't this cupcake look yummy? It is one of my pages for Corrine's cutest book for the Marie Antoinette Mail Art group swap. We are sending our books around the country having each other do pages in them. I did this page for Corrine by making circles from cardstock and gluing them on like icing. I added glitter, ribbon and roses with a banner that says, "Let them eat cake".

This page is the second one. I used ruffled crepe paper, german glass glitter and then collaged with postcard, vintage lace, and one of my favorite Marie style images.

I also got to finish my pages for Rona's book for the swap as well.

This first one I used silk Rose petals and a piece of Vintage lace. Then I layered an image of Marie and some roses over the roses. I added glitter and paper roses as well.

This next page is my second one in Rona's book.

I used a background cardstock with cupcakes all over it. I added a collaged image of Marie with a cupcake and embellished it with glitter rhinestones.

Marie Paper Fan Swap

I am finished with my Marie Antoinette paper fan. This was certainly a challenge for me and I am not sure why. Do you sometimes just struggle with something when all your ideas do not go as planned? I hate it when that happens! But I am glad I did this one cause it is so much nicer than the first one....

In my Marie Antoinette Mail Art group we are doing a round robin bracelet swap that is Marie Inspired of course. We are also including a journal for everyone to add comments and photos of the bracelets as they go around. This is my journal and starter bracelet. I mailed it off the other day and am waiting for the next person's to arrive here so I can add to it and send it on.

These mail art swaps are a lot of fun! They are a great way to trade things with other artists and learn new techniques. It has made me try things I have always wanted to, but never did....I am making a fan for a swap now....my first one did not turn out the way I wanted it to, so I am doing another one. It's been awhile since I blogged. I even missed the "Why I love to blog" party! I have been working on altered books, jewlery, paper fans, etc....And it is the end of the semester so I am trying to get all the grades in order and late assignments recorded. All this and it is getting hot here! I cannot function in the heat, it wears me out...

Thinking PINK!

Thinking Pink! It seems like everything that catches my eye lately is in some way shape or form PINK! I love the big plump pink roses on all the bushes in the yard. I love the pink peonies that are blooming. I love the pink, green and white Hydrangeas that are just everywhere! I love all the pink fabrics, papers, laces, and ribbons that I am seeing on everyone's blog...

Spring always reminds me of my dad and his rose garden. He loved roses, in fact we have about 10 bushes and/or trees in the front yard that he planted years ago. His favorite thing was to go out and prune them all after picking several stems for my mom to put in the house in a vase. My sister has carried on that tradition. I find myself cutting roses and putting them in vases, but I am not too good with the pruning...lol

I have been drooling over all the millinery that everyone has listed in their shoppes. My brain is on overload! I want it all! I need it all! I have to have it all!!! Do you get that way sometimes when every store you look in has ten things you absolutely cannot live without? Or is it just me? LOL Spring time always has a ton of cute floral blouses and capri pants that always look good on someone else...I have no tan...I mean I am totally white! And I just burn, turn red, then peel and turn white again...So, unless they are crops or long pants, I do not wear them.... And those cute sun dresses...Oh my, I love them all (for my neice!) She has that tall thin body that looks good in anything!...

46 & Making Paper Dolls Again! Who Knew???

Another fun Art Swap on Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group! This time I made four Paper Dolls. It has been 35 years since I made paper dolls. I forgot how fun it was to decorate and cut out and so on...

I used markers, colored pencils, glitter, feathers, lace, ribbon and flowers! FUN!
These dolls will be traveling, so they are packed up and ready to go! First stop is Connecticut...then...???? I will receive replacements from other amazing artists in the group...I can't wait!!!

Kody's First Trip to the Spa!!!

It was Kody's first Big Boy bath at the groomers today. Poor guy...he is traumatized...LOL (not really) I have never left him anywhere except when he was neutered and he was only 6 mos old then. He is almost two and too big for me to give him a bath in the tub anymore....I took him to Cathy. She is the one who groomed my Lhasa for years! (huge size difference) Cathy called me and said he was ready to be picked up. She said he was very well mannered and listened and did everything she told him to. She said she doesn't see that many dogs this well behaved. I asked her if she was sure she was talking about Kody??? LOL! Then I thought "His school paid off!" No, really, he is very smart and wants so much to please....But he is terribly spoiled! Or as my dad used to say, "Not spoiled, just very well cared for"

So I wanted to take pictures of him before he pulled off his pretty blue ribbon....
You can almost see the edge of it in the picture above.

Playing with his rope (his BFF in the whole world) is his favorite thing to do...at least three times a day!!! He jumps really high! I was trying to throw the rope and take pictures at the same time.....

Isn't he amazing? Sheesh, do you think I like him??? One last picture then I am off...
